5 criteria for choosing your sheet metal vacuum lifter

Sheet metal vacuum lifters are a useful mean of handling in many areas of the metalworking industry. For this reason, there is no single model that can meet all market requirements; instead, the most suitable vacuum lifter for performing different tasks must be identified on a case-by-case basis.

Let’s see what are the main criteria to consider when choosing a sheet metal vacuum lifter.

1 – Power supply

Depending on the structural characteristics, each company might need a different type of power supply. Each of our models can be manufactured in one of three available power supplies: compressed air, electricity (220V or 400V) or battery.

2 – Type of suction pads

Suction pads enable the lifting of ferrous and nonferrous materials. This competitive advantage is combined by Righetti with a system of sprung suction pads that make it possible to compensate for the natural unevenness of the load. In addition to this, all of our sheet metal vacuum lifters are fitted as standard with suction cups made of vulcanized oil-resistant rubber, which allow suction and subsequent handling of even oiled sheet metal.

In addition, in the case of checkered, diamond and tread sheets, we have specific suction pads available to adapt to surface irregularities.

3 – Adjustable suction pads spread to the sheet metal

One of the first questions we ask people who contact us about a sheet metal vacuum lifter is what is the largest size to be lifted. The size of the sheet metal is a key discriminator for us in identifying the most suitable model.

However, one of the most frequent concerns of customers regards modularity. Especially in cases of medium to large sheet metal, customers fear that they cannot adapt the vacuum lifter to smaller sizes. On the contrary: Righetti sheet metal vacuum lifters allow the reposition of the arms along the central beam and of the suction pads along the arms so that the maximum gripping spread can be considerably reduced.

4 – Maximum modularity with telescopic suction pads

In addition to the standard models, we also have suction lifters with telescopic frames in our catalog. These lifters, in addition to allowing repositioning of the suction pads and of the arms, also make it possible to reduce or lengthen the length of the central beam.

These models are particularly useful when moving in confined spaces, where maintaining the full length of the center beam could be inconvenient.

5 – Shutting the arms out of the vacuum circuit

To provide even greater versatility to our vacuum lifters, we have included, as standard equipment, the possibility of excluding an entire arm from the vacuum circuit by simply acting on the dedicated tap. Shutting off one or more arms is useful for lifting small workpieces that do not require the use of all suction pads.

In addition, it is also possible to opt for individual shut-off of each suction pad – a very valuable option when working with metal plates characterized by holes.
