Lifting windshields with vacuum lifters

The automotive, transportation and shipbuilding sectors are linked by the specific need of lifting windshields, even large ones, in a precise and safe way. The handling of this peculiar type of curved glass often happens by means of small manual suction cups, which make the grip on the windscreen easier for the operators.

However, such a manual process burdens the health of the workers and does not guarantee high safety standards.

The Dutch case: many glass shapes to handle

This was the case of a Dutch client of ours, as a specialized company in replacing and installing windshields, especially on cars, excavators and tractors. Tired of manually handling several windscreens every day, our customer turned to us to find a solution to make the process faster and safer.

The sizes of glass to be lifted were diverse: small panes, larger panes, convex glass or windscreens with various curvature radiuses. A single vacuum lifting device that could meet all requirements was therefore needed. After testing numerous types of windscreens, we provided our client with a single suction lifter that could lift and handle all the glass used on a daily basis.

Windshield suction lifters, as well as being used to handle windscreens in the automotive sector – which includes windscreens for buses, trucks, cars, tractors or excavators – are also increasingly in demand to handle glass used in the marine sector, or for train and tram windscreens.

Specific solutions for windscreens

Even if similar, windscreens stay in between flat glass panes and curved glass.

It often happens that their curvature radius does not allow the usage of standard vacuum lifter for flat glass. Therefore, we need to design a specific vacuum lifter whose suction pads can adapt to the particular angle of the glass.

Righetti windscreen vacuum lifters are equipped with special suction pads to balance the glass curvature. Righetti vacuum lifters for the automotive and marine sectors are built by adapting their sizes and features to the specific needs of the working environment.

For handling windscreens, we suggest opting for a battery-powered vacuum lifting equipment, which is the ideal solution for working with forklifts and other lifting gear. Alternatively, we offer many solutions powered by compressed air or electricity.
